A public methane number calculator for gas mixtures, with an MNc methane number calculator following ISO 17507-1:2025 and a PKI methane number calculator following ISO 17507-2:2025.

The app is intended for engineers, laboratories, and gas professionals who need a practical way to calculate methane numbers for natural gas, biomethane, biogas, and hydrogen-containing gas mixtures.

Both calculation methods are implemented independently and checked against validation material published in their respective standards. They are not presented as official or certified reference software.

Volume, mole, and mass compositions are converted between fraction bases according to ISO 14912:2025 before they are prepared for the selected methane-number method.

Calculation methods

MNc · ISO 17507-1:2025. The implementation follows the standard's calculation model and adds a purpose-built optimization strategy for evaluating and selecting between candidate solutions. Read about the MNc method.
